Isaiah Armwood slams one home against UMass

The Colonials are in the CAA Semi-finals with their 85-77 win over UMass. George Washington had six players finish in double-figures with the unlikely hero being Nemanja Mikic, who hit three big three pointers in the first half to propel the Colonials 40-31 halftime lead.

Besides Mikic, all five Colonial starters finished in double-figures, led by Patricio Garino and Isaiah Armwood’s 15 points each. Kevin Larsen, Maurice Creek, and Joe McDonald all finished with 12 points for the Colonials, who led for practically the entire game. Larsen played one of his best games of the season pulling down eight rebounds. The Colonials held UMass’s three starting bigs to just 10 points on 4-14 shooting.

With 40 seconds left in the first half, Derrick Gordon made a layup to cut the GW lead to 35-31. But a very quick Nick Griffin three pointer followed by a steal and Armwood bucket gave the Colonials the nine point halftime lead. Chaz Williams and Maxie Esho gave the Minutemen a fighting chance with their 19 and 22 points respectively, but UMass never came within four points.

The Colonials will take on VCU today at 4pm in the second semifinal.
