North Carolina showed off their top-seeded strength, posterizing Notre Dame 78-47. The Tar Heels used a 24-0 run to take the luck out of the Irish. Marcus Paige returned to form, scoring a team-high 16 points and knocking down four triples.
Unlike yesterday’s huge comeback for Notre Dame, the Irish never stood a chance even with North Carolina in a lot of foul trouble. The Tar Heels outrebounded Notre Dame 49-31, won the turnover battle 17-10, points in the paint 39-17, bench points 20-6, and the list goes on.
Notre Dame shot just 30 percent for the game and 26 percent from deep. Demetrius Jackson shot just 1-10 and yesterday’s heroes Zach Auguste and VJ Beachem scored only 17 combined points.
After the game Mike Brey said, “We could have made our travel plans at halftime.”
North Carolina had five in double figures. ACC Sixth Man of the Year Isaiah Hicks provided his first double-double of the season with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Brice Johnson, who was saddled with foul trouble, still scored 12 points in just 15 minutes of game time. Joel Berry and Justin Jackson both scored 11.
North Carolina takes on the winner of Miami/Virginia tomorrow night at 9pm for the ACC Tournament Title.
