Northeast Conference Tournament Preview

necDates:  March 5-11
Location:  Various Campus Sites

Long Island is the three-time defending tourney champ but a 9-20 regular season record gives them a bleak outlook for the tournament.

Predicted Champ:  Wagner (19-11, 12-4 NEC)

The Seahawks had a four point loss at Robert Morris on January 25th, but since then they are 9-1 with their lone loss coming by a single point in overtime at St. Francis(NY). Wagner has been playing basketball since the 1960s but has made exactly one trip to the NCAA tourney back in 2003. Robert Morris has been in the title game in four of the past five years and will have home-court advantage as the higher seed, but they picked a bad time to start losing to the two-seed.

Upset Potential:

Robert Morris (14-2 NEC, 20-12) Robert Morris has been the Buffalo Bills of the NEC losing four of the last five championship games in the NEC.  The Colonials seemed to have the conference well-in-hand with a seven-game winning streak in January and another seven-game streak in February before an 11-point loss to Wagner last Saturday.  This could be the year that the Colonials shake the stigma but Wagner is still the favorite at this point.
