Loyola junior guard Andre Walker scored a dandy of a layup with 27 seconds left to break a 60-60 tie, propelling the Greyhounds to a 62-60 win.
Walker scored a game-high 19 points, 14 of which came in the second half. He also hit a step-back three ball with 2:34 left in the that shrunk the Lehigh lead down to one. Loyola forward Cam Gregory then scored a tough bucket in the game’s final minute that gave Loyola a 60-59 lead. Lehigh’s Kahron Ross made one of two free throws setting up the Walker layup.
Ross would then miss a last-second jump shot that would have sent the game to overtime.
Walker finished just one rebound shy of his first career double-double and Gregory finished with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Loyola got a huge game out of Jarred Jones who scored 12 points in the first half to keep the Greyhounds in the game as they struggled to keep up with Lehigh, who had as large of a lead as 10.
Lehigh senior Tim Kempton, who came into the game as the nation’s 16th best scorer and averages 21 points and 10.2 rebounds, was held to a season-low 4 points and fouled out with more than six minutes left.
